Doing It For Dolly

Supporting Breast Cancer Research

I'm putting my foot down to stop breast cancer in its tracks!

Support our efforts in the 2024 Mother’s Day Classic as we walk for our Dolly

Our team is participating in the Mother's Day Classic, Sunday 12 May!

In February last year we lost our beloved Holly 10-months after being diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Holly was loved by so many who miss her dearly, which is why we have chosen to honour her by walking in this year’s Mother’s Day Classic. Our team is full of some of Holly’s most loved people, her husband and children, parents, siblings, aunties, uncles, cousins, nephews, in laws, and friends along the way. Holly touched so many people in her time here on earth with her immense kindness and empathetic personality. We have chosen a donation goal of $1300 as Holly’s lucky number was 13.

Throughout her entire battle with cancer Holly stayed as positive as she could. She never, if ever, complained, and took everything that came at her in her stride. No matter how sick treatment made her feel, how many hospital trips she had to make, or all the times it seemed she just could not catch a break, she was determined to beat the beast. She even created an Instagram page to document her journey. Tragically, the cancer stopped responding to the initial chemo treatments and began to spread to her lungs, bones, and skin. Holly also underwent immunotherapy, which was not only costly as it wasn’t subsidised but also made her feel incredibly unwell. This paired with radiation would also come with its own gruelling side effects. Despite it all, she truly tried her best to stay positive and was determined she would not succumb to her illness and leave behind her adored husband Simon, and three beautiful kids Toby, Tristan and Darcie.

I don’t think it’s fair to say Holly lost her battle, as if she did not fight hard enough. Her cancer was aggressive, fast moving and unpredictable. She courageously lived with her cancer until every part of her body was ready to let go of the illness and pain. Holly died at age 39, 7 months before her 40th birthday.

What is Triple Negative Breast Cancer?

TNBC accounts for around 10-15% of all breast cancers. TNBC is different to other types of breast cancer as it doesn’t have any of the three receptors usually found on the surface of breast cancer cells: estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and HER2. As a result, these breast cancers do not respond to treatments targeting these receptors, meaning other treatment options, such as surgery combined with chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other targeted treatments are needed to treat this breast cancer subtype. TNBC is an aggressive and fast-growing cancer, particularly in younger women.

Together, we'll be lacing up our running shoes and taking a step forward for women's cancer research, and we'd really love your support!

We're walking the talk and joining the Mother’s Day Classic to help raise funds and awareness to fight breast and ovarian cancers.

Tragically, 12 Australians lose their lives to these awful diseases every day.

Please make a donation today to support our team. There’s only one way to stop breast and ovarian cancers - together!

Thank you for supporting our team.
